Sideshow Gallery presents Jill Corson and Russ Flatt

Sideshow Gallery is pleased to present two contemporary photographers — Jill Corson and Russ Flatt from February 15 through March 11. The two photographers offer completely diverse — and completely complementary visions — one working in vividly colored impressions and the other in black and white portraiture.

Jill Corson has been described as a romantic. She uses store windows like canvases and the refracted images evoke a magical feel as the surfaces alternately recede and push outward. The resulting compositions are rich and multi-layered. She favors storefront windows with their overt consumer item fantasy displays. A consummate editor, Corson chooses reflections from the street to balance the ideal scenes. The final images are kaleidoscopic and so high-keyed as to have an overall jewell-like effect.

Russ Flatt is known for his fashion photographs and has had work in Vogue Homme International, and Soma. In contrast to Corson's exuberant transcendence, Flatt has created a series of straight ahead portraits of personages connected with the fashion world. The hype we associate with haute couture is absent - the gloss has been stripped away. What's left are stunningly simple portrayals done in high style to create a sense of timeless elegance. Despite the ironic austerity, the glamour is still palpable.
